Preparation for the School Board Candidate Forum

It’s less than a week away before the the School Board Candidate Forum (and Ice Cream Social) and preparations are well underway.

Tuesday, September 5th
Ice cream social: 5:30pm – 6:30pm
Forum: 6:30pm – 8:00pm

Earlier this week, members of the APA gathered at Torrent Brewing Company to spread the word via calls, messages, and texts to fellow APA members. There’s nothing like gathering to engage with community to discuss issues important to us, issues like

  • social justice,
  • education,
  • safety,
  • transportation,
  • environmental resources,
  • renewable energy,
  • sustainable economic development
  • resident empowerment
  • and more

If we want to show the school board candidates how important progressive action will be over the next two years, we have to show up!

Over the last few weeks, questions were gathered from diverse progressive groups from all over the Ames community covering a range of issues, including questions from community youth. The moderated forum will lead candidates through the questions, and allow time for community responses.

We are proud to be partnering with the Ames Public Library for this event. Public libraries provide valuable services and support for communities to gather, learn, and engage.

How can you get involved?

It’s easier than you might think:.

  1. Show up
  2. Bring your friends, family, and neighbors
  3. Eat ice cream!
  4. Meet and engage with school board candiates
  5. THEN VOTE on September 12.

You can find event details on our community event calendar, or on Facebook.

  • The Ames Public Library facilities are accessible to those with disabilities
  • Childcare and activities are provided during the forum for ages 4 and older.
