Progressive Pints on Literacy

September 15, 2016 — Our second Progressive Pints night was focused on literacy challenges in our community. Several parents shared their personal stories, including Helen Blitvich of Decoding Dyslexia Iowa who has been a great advocate for students with dyslexia in our district. We also heard an update from Ames School Board member Alisa Frandsen on the Literacy Plan being developed by district for K-2nd grade instruction.

Our small group discussions centered around:
– Empowering parents and teachers
– Increasing awareness of programs and accomodations
– Advocating for families and children who do not have family structures to assist
